Run Nova Scotia Timex Series

The Timex Series is designed to provide a competitive opportunity for runners wishing to set goals and compete at a higher level. All are welcome to participate; however, runners must be members of Run Nova Scotia to earn series points. Members must participate in 4 of the 7 Timex Series races to qualify for the team, but only 2 of the 3 5K events will count towards their final scores. Timex Series races are indicated below and in the calendar of events. New in 2012 is a 5K on the track in early May. In addition, to add excitement to the series finale, the Dartmouth Natal Day 6 Miler will be worth 20% more points.

Points are awarded in each series race as follows:

First 6 Events:

  • 1st place = 33 points;
  • 2nd place = 30 points;
  • 3rd place = 29 points;
  • 4th place = 28 points;
  • down to 31st place and over = 1 point.

Dartmouth Natal Day 6 Mile Points

  • 1st place = 40 points;
  • 2nd place = 36 points;
  • 3rd place = 34 points;
  • 4th place = 32 points;
  • 5th place = 30 points
  • 6th place = 29 points
  • down to 34th place and over = 1 point.

Points awarded will be posted on Run Nova Scotia website (www.runnovascotia.ca/series stats).

Runners’ final scores will be calculated as the total of their best 4 finishes. The males and females who earn the most points will be named to Team Nova Scotia and invited to participate in the National 10K Championship as guests of RNS. The selection criteria are as follows:

  • Male:
    • 3 top open male;
    • 1 top master male;
    • 1 top senior master male
  • Female:
    • 3 top open female;
    • 1 top master female;
    • 1 top senior master female

If the top master or senior master happens to be in the top 3 of the open category, then the next person in the open category will be selected so that the team will still consist of 3 open, 1 master, and 1 senior master in each gender. Remaining RNS members who have completed 4 or more races are eligible for 2 drawn positions on the Team, one male and one female. One additional person may be selected to attend, at the discretion of the RNS Board of Directors, based on contribution to the sport of running and services to RNS.
